ACCORD’s Chief Executive Helen Simpson welcomed Committee members to the refurbished In Patient Unit on 6th February where they were introduced to staff and volunteers.

The Committee members were given a guided tour of the Hospice facility. The renovation has provided a modern yet homely healthcare environment, in which to care for patients and their families, with eight single rooms all with en-suite wet rooms and French doors leading to an individual patio and communal garden areas.

It is not always possible for people to be cared for at home and ACCORD’s Hospice inpatient beds are vital for people who require intensive support for diverse and complex needs, or for those individuals who wish their end of life care at ACCORD.

The Hospice offers complimentary therapies such as massage and reflexology which can assist with symptom control and aid relaxation.

Hairdressing services are onsite too. Treatments such as scalp and hair management, wig and scarf guidance, hand massage and manicure are offered to support a sense of well – being.

The Education Department within ACCORD provides specialist palliative and end of life courses to staff and local organisations.

Activities, which aim to enhance the individual’s quality of life, are also provided for those who attend the Day Therapy Unit.

Providing for People in Paisley has supported ACCORD Hospice over a number of years. The £500 will be used to provide assistance to patients and their families who are experiencing hardship at the most vulnerable time in their lives.

Helen – Chief Executive:

”ACCORD Hospice greatly appreciates the financial support it has benefitted from over the years from P³  and continues to receive, (from 2006 we have received £5,000). P³ allocates a fund to ACCORD for our team to instantly access and offer the right support at the right time to those in need or in crisis.

Karen – social worker:

The instant access to support, by staff, is invaluable to ensure patients, families and carers cope with significant social and or financial difficulties.

We have used this money in the past for underwear, pyjamas and bedding, and as a social worker I am grateful for the ability of our organisation to respond so quickly to this basic human need, often in a time of crisis’.

Joy – Patient and Family Support Lead:

“Access to the right support at the right time greatly assists in the individuals ability to cope physically and emotionally with difficult situations and aids their wellbeing as they continue to live and deal with a life limiting illness.’
